I am a strong advocate of non-conformity. I don’t believe in structure. I detest any template and reject any notion that anything is absolute. Even the truth is not because it is ‘the truth according to???’ whose perception of it might have been strongly influenced by the tide of the times. The events of any era produce their own truths and lies. And such truths become lies once the table turns. So, I protest that anything is gospel unless inspired by the Creator. And the Bible is not a book of literature but history.
Being a non-conformist, if I was to put together my twelve disciples there would be, among them Zukiswa Waanner (whose experimental style in Men of the South and her retake of Can Themba’s The Suit breaks conformity barriers), Kgebetli Moele (for his shrewd use of his poetic license in Book of the Dead), Tshwarelo Mogakane and until last week Deon-Simphiwe Skade.

Wandering among the ruins of the lifeless city, Rosa soon discovers that she is not the only part of Kernel that has awakened.

On Dec 1, 2010, a short video excerpt of "A Fire In My Belly" by David Wojnarowicz was pulled from the Hide/Seek exhibit at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery due to pressure from Republican lawmakers threatening the Smithsonian's funding.

Censorship in the 21st century is a frightening reaction to an exhibit that was created to show differences in sexual identity in modern America. Aren't we beyond this by now? When will this stop?

In response to the Smithsonian's decision to remove "A Fire In My Belly" from the Hide/Seek exhibit and to protest against censorship in the arts, VandM.com is screening the original 13-minute silent version of David Wojnarowicz's video online, courtesy of the Estate of David Wojnarowicz and P.P.O.W Gallery, New York.

About a Month ago i took part in a Show called IPP in Cape Town, my hometown ... i sent from Denmark a series of zines i have created for the past 7 or 8 years, all xeroxed strictly. In the time i was also working on a collaboration with Mike Marocco --We came to call it `Trinity´--- some 60 collages, for around 7 weeks we sent each other three images(found mostly) and we had three days to complete the recon or deconstruction. Join us for a collective reading in Copenhagen two days before the election! We will meet 4.45pm at Rådhuspladsen. At 5pm we will start reading, again and again, until 6pm when we either separate or celebrate. Bring your heart, brain and voice! The text will be read in Danish and English.

This is a collective reading project initiated by Malin Arnell, Kajsa Dahlberg, Johanna Gustavsson and Fia-Stina Sandlund in connection with the Swedish parliament elections in 2010. The text that is read is an adaptation of "I want a president…", Zoe Leonard, 1992. The Copenhagen edition of the reading is held in conjunction with the exhibition "Terms of Belonging" at Overgaden Institute for Contemporary Art. The text has been translated to Danish by Gritt Uldall-Jessen.

its running for two years now, on a volunteer basis by myself and a good friend Matias, we have big dreams for the project, we have two elements to this little project, ONE is drawing anything on A5 sheets of paper, we trying t reach 1000 drawings, we envision to sell the drawings and use the money to fund other cultural projects--- a quick funding avenue for 1000 kroner.

Our plans now is to set up the infrastructure for the fund, and in the mean time make more sessions--- here is images from the last two sessions at the Århus festival.

So i was over the moon the first time i came across the HOBO signs, it was a post on the designbooom website, it just had images from a book --- wait a sec here is somf of what i saw --

Here is more context .

Hobo signs - Beginning in the 1880's up until World War Two, hoboes placed markings on fences, posts, sidewalks, buildings, trestles, bridge abutments, and railroad line side equipment to aid them and others of their kind in finding help or steering them clear of trouble. Usually, these signs would be written in chalk or coal letting others know what they could expect in the area of the symbol. The classic American hobo of the late 19th and early 20th centuries communicated through a basic system of markings, a code though which they gave information and warnings to their fellow Knights of the Road. Today hoboes communicate with cellular phones, and e-mail.

the I do ART studios back in 2000 and 9 --- NOW 2010 we made two session happen at the annual festival. ONE was a UNderground drawing session, where people are invited to draw anything on A5 pieces of paper, our vision is to have a the night of a 1000 drawings where we sell the drawings at a fixed price and all proceeds goes to a worthy project or charity in the city Of Århus- Denmark. that was one

two was a MURAL, with the help of the boys at SIDEprojects we covered a wall in white. 35 mejlgade to be exact ---we put up the name DRAW MORE CLUB, left some cans with black paint kindly sponsored by a local paint producer called Schjerning Farve( they been around since the 1800´s) plus some paint brushed, and rules( but u know the thing about rules) the result was and is just awesome. MANY HANDS MADE IT HAPPEN

June 6, 1998, Kathryn Weir curated an exhibition titled ‘Read My Lips’ at the National Gallery in Australia featuring 3 important contemporary artists Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger and Cindy Sherman. The exhibition explored questions about the role and the meaning of art today.

13 years later, I’m still exploring the same question of aesthetic, of subject matter and of the role of the contemporary artist.

My goal as a contemporary artists in the 21st century is to redefine art. I use the medium to educate and provoke the viewer. It is my weapon of choice. I want to pierce your soul and consciousness with my visual dialogue. I am a social documentarian and my brother’s keeper no matter what religion, race or creed.

The photography presented in this series of mixed media works exposes, explores, and offers a platform to investigate and define family, street hustlers, religion, politicians, drug addicts, love, and criminality. I use imagery to evoke an emotional response giving the subject not only a visual dialogue, but a voice that will sustain and evolve with each passing generation. The works in the ‘Read My Lips’ exhibition attempt to make a visual statement about the essence of art, representation and power structure in contemporary society.

"We started with the Kinect interface library developed for Processing and made available by Daniel Shiffman. Some modifications were introduced, to get our 3D data into Cinema 4D. Each file represents one frame with a coordinate map (point index, x, y, z lines) in plaintext. A threshold filter was added to enable us to filter out any points that were too far. This way we could remove the living room entirely from the sequence. Importing files manually into Cinema 4D would be painful/impossible, so we wrote a little python script that read these files in real-time, allowing us to tweak playback speed, resolution, etc. After importing all our scenes into Cinema 4D, the rendered sequences were taken into After Effects and Premiere. Business as usual from here on."

IN A NUTSHELL TRANSLATION OF THE poser above is, an old train yard is being renovated for cultural production use in the second largest city in Denmark.
A city organization is the brain child of the settlers experiment, in the set style of Lars von Triers dogville, 25 artists and creative collectives will occupy a space called Ridehuset(ridershouse-longstory). in short i applied to be part of experiment loosely based on Lars von Tier´s Dogville "set" where actors were working in this imaginary space. Now in the city i live there is in development a huge new complex for cultural and art production wich is known as godsbanen ( Goods yard) part of the old train yard and the goods delivery zone for trains, old school building been dead for a while, some time last year Some friends and i had our small time studios set up,

Anyway this time around its a little more official as the cit has its eyes and ears to the ground and wanting to investigate how a diverse group of creatives work together to create a Arts festival ---

A bit about the book

Fanzines is the ultimate book on the subject, full of reproductions of the best fanzines ever created, from the superhero tributes of the 1950s and 60s, to punk fanzines such as Sniffin' Glue, right up the contemporary e-zine scene. Arranged chronologically in six chapters, each with a thorough introduction, Fanzines spans eight decades of counterculture and features many extremely rare publications. The author is avid fanzine collector Teal Triggs, who is Professor of Graphic Design at the University of the Arts London. She has written extensively on the subject including as co-editor of Below Critical Radar: Fanzines and Alternative Comics From 1976 to Now.
